Elvis Presley

Twins Elvis Aaron (Aron) and Jesse Garon Presley were born on January 8th, 1935 in East Tupelo. Unfortunately, Jesse Garon Presley was still born.

On October 3rd, 1945 Elvis made his first public appearance. He entered a singing contest at the Mississippi-Alabama Fair and Dairy Show and placed fifth.

Starting in 1953 Elvis’s music was released under Sun Records. In August of 1955 he was signed by “Colonel” Tom Parker who became his manager and in November a deal was negotiated with RCA Victor Records. RCA bought out his contract with Sun Records signing him for a record breaking $40, 000.

Under the RCA label Elvis’ debut album “Elvis Presley” was released on March 23rd, 1956 and during his career released 72 albums, 30 extended play singles (EP), 102 singles and a number of soundtracks.

He signed a seven year contract with Paramount and “Love Me Tender” the first of many motion pictures was released in 1956.

Elvis was drafted in March of 1958. He was posted to Friedberg, Germany where he served from October 1958 to March 1960.

Elvis passed away at his Graceland home on August 16th, 1977. He was originally buried beside his mother at the Forest Hill Cemetery in Memphis but after an attempt to steal his body in August both his remains and those of his mother where moved to the Meditation Garden at Graceland in October 1977.
